It is very important that computer users learn how to clean a DVD burner. Regular cleaning will keep the drive in good shape and prolong its life.

Required Tools

DVD cleaning kit (can be purchased in computer shops)

Canned air cleaning spray

Step 1

Turn on your computer. After the OS has finished loading, remove the DVD from the kit. Put the cleaning solution onto the disc.

Step 2

Press “eject” on the DVD drive. Put the disc onto the tray. To close the drive, press “eject”.

Step 3

The cleaning disc will start on its own. A window will appear. Choose “start cleaning”, “start program” or a similar option. Allow the cleaning program to run as long as indicated in the instructions. When finished, click the “eject” button. Keep the tray open. Turn the computer off.

Step 4

To learn how to clean a DVD burner thoroughly, you must remove the cables attached to the PC. Remove any peripherals attached to the computer.

Step 5

Set the computer on its right side on an even surface. Feel or check the back of the case. Determine if the panel is secured by screws, a metal latch or thumbscrew.

If it’s a thumbscrew, twist it out. Pull it up if it’s a latch. Or use screwdrivers to remove the screws. Push the side panel. To remove, just slide it off. Take off the panel.

Step 6

Take off the flat SATA cable at the port. Remove the screws keeping the DVD drive on the bay. Go to the computer’s front and pop the bezel at the drive’s front. Pull out the drive from the bay.

Step 7

Get the canned air and spray the DVD burner drive’s sides. Make sure the insides of the drive are sprayed too. Spray in the open tray.

Step 8

Put the DVD burner into the bay when you are done cleaning. Put the screws back on. Put the SATA cable back on the port.

Step 9

Place the side panel onto the case again. Put the thumbscrew, metal latch or screws back on. Connect the cables to the back of the computer. Turn the power on. Put a DVD disc into the drive and try it. The drive should work out right.

Once you learn how to clean a DVD burner, you’ll be able to keep that drive working consistently. To avoid problems, it is best to clean the drive before any problems crop up.
